Install on Android
  1. Tap Download for Android on the phone. If the browser warns about the file, tap Download anyway.
  2. Pause Play Protect: Play Store › profile picture › Play Protect › gear, turn off Scan apps with Play Protect. On Samsung, also turn off Settings › Security and privacy › Auto Blocker if it's on.
  3. Open DirtLap.apk from the notification or My Files › Downloads. Allow installs from that app if asked, then tap Install.
  4. Turn Play Protect (and Auto Blocker) back on.

Updating: install the new file over the top. Your rides and settings stay. If it says "App not installed", uninstall the old DirtLap first (back up in Settings › Backup).

Install on iPhone
  1. On a Mac or PC, download DirtLap.ipa.
  2. Plug the iPhone in with a cable, unlock it and tap Trust if asked.
  3. Open a sideloading app (iloader, Sideloadly or AltStore), pick DirtLap.ipa and sign in with your Apple ID. A free Apple ID works.
  4. On the iPhone: Settings › General › VPN & Device Management, tap your Apple ID, then Trust.
  5. Turn on Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode and restart if asked.

With a free Apple ID the app stops opening after 7 days. Install it again the same way; your rides and settings stay. Sideloaded copies can't use CarPlay.
